Floyd Mayweather is making noise again. This time, his subject is New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin.
Mayweather used Twitter earlier this the week to publicly blast Lin's stellar play:
"Jeremy Lin is a good player, but all the hype is because he's Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don't get the same praise."
Following backlash for his comment, Mayweather again took to Twitter to respond:
"Its Okay for ESPN to give their opinion, but I say something and everyone questions Floyd Mayweather. I'm speaking my mind on behalf of other NBA players. They are programmed to be politically correct and will be penalized if they speak up. Other countries get to support and cheer for their athletes and everything is fine. As soon as I support Black American athletes, I get criticized."
I guess Floyd hasn't watched SportsCenter for the last week. Jeremy Lin became the first player in NBA history to have at least 20 points and 7 assists in his first four career starts. He's now averaging over 26 points and 8 assists per contest. He's also led the Knicks to 7 straight wins - 2 of those without NBA All-Star, Amar'e Stoudamire.
Lin is the first American born NBA player of Taiwanese and Chinese descent, and didn't get a chance to show his skills until just recently. After going undrafted, he signed with the Golden State Warriors, who dropped him. Then, with the Houston Rockets, who also let the potential star go.

This isn't the first time Mayweather has drawn attention for a racist-type outburst. Back in 2010, he went on a racist tirade about Manny Pacquiao, saying the fighter needed to "make some sushi rolls and cook some rice," and then said he was going to, "cook him (Pacquiao) with some cats and dogs."
Maybe Lin's story is a bit like Tim Tebow's where everyone is on board because he's somewhat of an underdog, but regardless, Lin managed to put together the best 4 game start of any player in NBA history.
And that list actually includes some black players, Mr. Mayweather.
Barack Obama has more credibility than Floyd Mayweather Jr. does. "Money" uses the race card to promote his stupidity
ReplyDeleteMayweather is a past his prime loud mouth asshole. Who cares what he thinks.
ReplyDeleteHe has no idea what he's saying. What an idiot. Really, because he's Asian, Floyd? Like no black players get credit for what they do on the court.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all three of ya. Lol
